Tell me about the first date you ever went on?
My very first date was in High School, freshman year at a football game. My best friend and I had taken an interest in the same girl (classic) and I knowingly went on a date with her. Now, I have no interest in high school or foot ball games and especially not high school football games but the girl I was interested in at the time had a brother on the team. It was a totally nerve racking experience, I took the bus alone to the school and met her there. We sat down and just talked all night, didn’t watch the game. I came home that night to a million IM’s from my friend. For a while I looked back on that night feeling bad for betraying my friend but it turns out I’m still with her and him and I are still really great friends. Probably best friends. Everything works out in the end.
What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
Right now, I dropped out of school and moved back in with my mom to save money to move to Silverlake in order to pursue the dream of making a living off of music. The hardest thing about it is wondering whether or not I’ll wish that I had stayed in school, I also haven’t told my family that I dropped out.
Is there someone you would like to meet if you could bring anyone back from the dead?
I would like to have Nietzche and Plato get together and debate the meaning of life while Debussy and Coltrane did live performances.
What are your parents’ names?
Christine Lynn Gladish (maiden name) and William Carlis (still doesn’t own a car) Campbell
Tell me about your last dream?
Kind of a weird one last night actually. I usually don’t remember my dreams but I had a dream last night that I was staying in a house in Flagstaff that was haunted. Like scary haunted, the dream was insane I can’t even describe it. Turns out that my brother was the ghost haunting the house and I wasn’t even aware that he had died. Then the dream trailed off into this massive cry fest about him passing away. I think my subconscious is telling me to spend more time with him because I really don’t see him much.
Do you listen to the radio?
Yeah all the time. KJZZ, get the Led out, All Things Considered, KBAQ, 92.7.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
For first friday someone asked me to play a double set at Conspire and also provide a PA. I was playing a show on the same day up in Flagstaff and I assumed that he meant First Friday in November. He called me in the morning to confirm and I was really busy with packing up to drive up north that I didn’t realize that he was confirming that it was in fact “Today”. He called me again before I played that night and so I called him after the show only to find that I had let him down pretty hard. I’m not sure why it was so embarrassing but I felt like a total idiot.
Do you have a favorite myth?
I can’t think of a single myth which is pretty terrible of me.e
What were you scared of as a child?
My parents told me that if I was bad that they were going to call the people at “Bad Boys Island” to come and pick me up and I literally, to this day, have a crystal clear image of how hellish that place is. I believed in it until I was 6 or 7 years old haha.
Do you know your neighbors?
Not at all only because I’m always moving.
